It started out to showcase the on and off road capabilities of the then new JK model.

If I remember correctly, the jk wasn't exactly welcomed with opened arms by the off road community. Hence the need for a jk only event.

yes.... Both correct! Lots of people still hate the JK, I wheel with them all the time :thumb:

One other question people ask all the time; Why only 10 invited participants? Ask anyone who has been a participant, it's all about allowing the participants and sponsors to have a great time. Behind the scenes for the work crew, and especially Mel's family who works all the logistics and support efforts, it is very difficult. Total jeeps between participants, sponsors, support crew = 20-25. And then there is the chase crew who doesn't even get to offroad, another 2-3 vehicles and a freaking Semi truck with 52 foot trailer!

Think about wheeling with 20-25 jeeps on a trail run on your local trails with people that are somewhat familiar with an area, that's hard enough to manage. Now take 20-25 jeeps, many who don't know each other, from all over the US, Canada, Mexico, who knows where. Put them wheeling in a different location, or possibly state, every day for a week. Drivers with pro level experience, the guy that just bought and built their first jeep and got selected, to the weekend warrior. Many different skill levels for the support/spotter crew to keep an eye on and make sure no one gets hurt, but ensures everyone gets maximum seat time. It's absolutely one of the best events to be lucky to be a part of. But remember, it ain't cheap ;)

I can't imagine the work load that goes into planning and then running an operation of that magnitude, especially considering all the participants are all wide eyed, giddy, and hopped up on adrenaline. Sounds like cat herding!

Hopefully I'll get any opportunity to find out first hand!

Lots of people still hate the JK,

And why is that?

People are not only loyal to brands; hate Ford, love Chevy.....piss on dodge, etc. I'm sure you have seen the stickers or posts on any vehicle centric Facebook page. Well even in the world of jeep's, people think a CJ was the last real jeep, or jeeps that don't have round headlights aren't real jeeps, or TJ was the last year of decent jeeps, or jeeps should only have 2 doors. JK's are absolutely the most capable vehicle off the showroom floor, I will go as far as saying the most capable jeep in pure stock form. I think some guys that don't own one just don't want to admit it, so ignorance turns into anger, which turns into hatred. Hell, we have seen that scenario recently on this forum with a huge argument that started over suspension brand loyalty. Be loyal to a brand, but don't let ignorance rule the day.

There is a chance I might make it back, but it would come at a huge price. Not sure I'm willing to commit yet. I'm in contact with Mel on if I can come through for him or not. It's a big deal for me to continue helping Mel out anyway I can.........and for the record, the support crew is unpaid. I do it out of my pocket because Mel is a great friend, there are enough people looking for free shit everyday, he doesn't need another leech :icon_crazy:

Haha! Ol EVOJEEP is at the crib on jack stands, with the battery pulled. But you guys have an invite to drive it at any event! Professional Driver's rig is already related to EVOJEEP through parts and pieces ;)

Totally concur with this! If everybody had that little voice in their head that said if you work hard and earn that paycheck, good things will come with it. My garage is starting to pile with parts from my hard earned electronic transfer from Uncle Sam. :usa: I wonder DFAS will let me set up an allotment to ORE......:cheesy:
