Factory softop or trektop?

Overlander is correct, the surrounds for the Trek Top NX have slots for 2 tension bars and a center hold down bar for a JKU. Also the black diamond is the same color as the twill and as thick.

Awesome, so what is the difference between fabrics then lol

You would need the surrounds with the pivot brackets for the side bows that the sun rider feature uses.

Door surrounds are different between factory and trektop. The top mounts differently to the surrounds.

That's what I thought also, but if you look at bestop door surrounds on Quadratec, direct quote-

"These New Bestop® Factory style door surrounds provide attachment for tops and sealing surface for doors. Compatible with Factory soft goods and Bestop's Replace-a-top, Supertop NX and Trektop NX. They include mounting points for Bestop's Top Arch Sunrider® portion. Complete kit comes with driver and passenger side door surrounds and tailgate bar."

I would kindly disagree with CG. The inside of my factory "twill" top is black whereas quads' "diamond" top is clearly gray. So there are some differences in material and/or production. As to what those exact differences are I'm not sure. Call bestop and ask why there top is better/diff than quads. Then call quad and ask how theres if diff from bestop.

Hmmm, I see. Seems as if a call in to bestop is in order.

The twill is softer, more pliable which was great for the factory top when you have to bunch it all up when you put it down. The Trek Top is basically the same material I believe that was used before the twill was introduced, seems about the same thickness as the twill though. And as JAGS pointed out the inside is more grey but the outside is pretty much the same color. I just changed out my factory twill for the Trek about 3 weeks ago and like it much more than the factory really because of the bikini top when the rear and side windows are out which is most of the time.

My main things is the outside color because a black jeep with a gray top would look a little funny in my opinion and I would be getting it so I can also have the bikini option. I'm on hold with quadratec for the past 5 minutes waiting for a damn person to answer!

I'm sure the exterior coloring of either is fine or they wouldn't sell many of them. A lame statement is that the twill fabric top is more black that the previous model tops. This is what I notice more when my Jeep is next to others. I've honestly never seen the quadratec model in person, that I'm aware of. Not sure if this helps?

Here is a picture of mine, definitely black. Got it from Quadratec for under $600.

It gives me an image of it but since Quadratec doesn't know how to answer phones today I'll have to try again tomorrow

From recent research I just did... 5 min on youtube... the twill top from bestop is made of the same material that is used on convertible tops for Jags and other luxury cars. Its thicker and supposed to have more sound deadening properties. Is it worth an extra 4 or 500 bucks... not in my opinion.

Agree 100%! Not worth it only for that

You said Jags, so thought I'd chime in again...:cheesy: I went from a hard top to the new twill top and was suprised at the little difference of noise in the cabin. So I would say it is quieter than previous "material" soft tops that I've riden in. I'm very impressed with the twill material and will likley never go back to a hard top. Now it's just taking up space hoisted up in the garage.

I would not likley have paid the difference of said 4-500 bucks, but I got mine on a GREAT deal off craigslist. Gal in the south bay got dual top and didn't want the soft top.

Door Surround Update: I called bestop and there are different surrounds as the Trek models have an extra plastic loop/clip to hold an additional support bar. I'm pretty sure my OEM surrounds don't have this.

Good point about the noise JAGS, the twill is quiet but the Trek Top is really not much louder being more aerodynamic it helps. I attached a couple of photos one of the loop and the other of the connecting point for the tubes that make up the sun rider on the door surrounds, the OEM surrounds on my 2013 did not have these for sure. Hope this helps.

Good work Jags- makes me wonder if the trek top surrounds work with a factory softtop, but not vice versa
