Coilover Question

so looking at the coilover options that are out there now, I noticed some of them run inside the frame rails and some on the outside. What is the difference performance wise and what are the cons to running inside the frame rails?

I'm assuming you are talking about the rear setup? Performance wise, there would be no real difference - going on the outside is just another way to solve the problem of where to put everything. Going on the outside will require a lot more modifications to address clearance issues and I personally wouldn't recommend it for that reason.

yeah I was refering to the rear. Im looking at 3 options right now. The Evo DTD, the Genright Elite, and the Genright version 1 elite kit. the elite kit mounts outside the frame rails and requires cutting into the tub and wider axles. the version 1 mounts inside the frame rails and can be used on stock axles. as for the evo, im not sure...?

I run the EVO DTD on our white JK and their bolt on kit on dozer JK. Well actually, our dozer JK is at EVO right now getting a DTD installed in it too. In other words, I have the opportunity to do it again and I still went with the DTD. Why? Because there simply is NOTHING better out there in terms of performance, travel, protection and all WITHOUT having to cut into the tub as a perk.

what else would i need to run the DTD besides the long arm kit? do you know of anyone running the genright kit? part of the reason im hesitant about the genright, is that besides genright i havent seen anyone else running it to talk to about quality and performance etc. Evo had the benefit of having tons of people vouching for their setup, which may be the deal breaker...

You don't need a long arm kit to run the DTD. You can run it with short arms and I have. I unfortunately do not know of anyone running the Genright kit.

im on the stock JK sport suspension so id like to upgrade everything else if im going to drop the coin on the evo setup. and yeah it doesnt seem like anyone is running it besides genright... maybe why they dropped the price by $3k lol

:cheesy: Yeah, that could be a reason to lower the price so drastically. FWIW, I have little doubt that the kit works, just don't know too many people who like the idea of "having" to get wider axles to run it or worse, "cut into the tub".

dont mind cutting in the tub and wider axles is something i planned anyway so its not a big deal. i would really like to see people other than the manufacture talking about how awesome it is. that being said, do you have a thread with a build sheet on the DTD setup that you are running or one that you recommend?

Remember, to run the genright kit you also have to relocate your gas tank to accommodate the double triangulated 4 link setup.

In terms of the least modification, the EVO setup will be far less when compared to the GenRight kit and not require you drop the coin on axles at the same time.

It's highly possible that there's good reason why you don't see anyone running the Genright setup other than the price.

planning to run fuel cell in back also, so that wont be an issue you either.

Is it just me or were you not already sold on the Genright before you ever came here to ask about it? Come on, be honest with yourself.

It looks like a solid kit, but im not going to be the test dummy for it. same reason i didnt buy performance upgrades for my car until after the parts had been out and I could get feedback from actual customers and not manufactures that claim this and that. so while yes i am very interested in the genright kit, the Evo kit is tried and tested and that is far more important to me. so that being said, when it comes time to pull the trigger, if genright doesnt have people running their setup then i wont be the guy to test it out.

Ok, so ask yourself this: what is it you REALLY want a coilover kit for? The flex, right? What do they advertise as amount of "true vertical travel"? Wayalife's white Jk has a TRUE vertical travel of 14", no other brand has beat that yet.

thats a great point. They dont actually state the verticle wheel travel that their kit has. im not buying this tomorrow so I have time to do more research to find out what the deal is. there is tons of information and backing of the evo kit which is undoubtedly a great kit. i would just like information on the genright kit so i can make an informed decision. next thing on my list is the hemi swap, then axles, then suspension. in the mean time i will continue to research and when the time comes, ill make my decision. and your point about the flex is very valid. if it turns out their kit doesnt provide as much TRUE verticle travel as evo's then all of this is moot.

I'm going to be installing the EVO coilovers front and rear. looked at alot of other options and when all the smoke settled I chose to go with a tried and trued kit that many people can testify to about performance and reliability.

yup. if there are no actual customer testimonials when it comes time, ill be running the evo kit too. which at this rate may very well be what ends up happening.

It's all ready to be picked up. (I think. Looked finished when I was there)

I can go pick it up and "test" drive it for you if you need me to. :D
