PLANNING 2016 Windrock, TN - End of Summer Run

It may be a little early in the planning stages, but any idea (roughly) how many days we're talking about for the whole trek?

I've never participated in a jeep group ride of this proportion, so just trying to see about how many days off we'd be looking at taking.

Little early for all of that at this point, but I would say a week, at least, would be required for the whole trip. But you wouldn't have to take part in all of it.

Trevor, My wife and I are very interested in attending next years event. If it is half as good as last weekend at URE it will be a blast. Keep up the great work.

how Did i miss this thread. after reading up I have some Ideas.

Windrock makes for a great home base style park due to the large campground, proximity to stores, variety of trails, variety of camping from cabins to tents at the campground and large staging areas.

To get the Multi Day convoy going i would suggest starting 4 small events.

Socal/southwestern group
Nocal/PNW group
northeast group
Southeast group

as each group starts off the trip they pick up more members as the progress toward the final destination. Doing it this way lets you plan the event anywhere in the country and people in every regions should be able to participate for at least one day if not make the whole trip.

I wouldnt be opposed to ending up in Colorado, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, hell anywhere is good with me.

However...

With a park like windrock you can make the event more like a jamboree feel. Large social gathering that has scheduled trail rides led by locals familiar with trails. Multiple departure times, multiple events throughout the day, group pot luck dinner, raffles etc...

If you try to do a trek style event the trip becomes more about the trip, If you do a Jamboree style event the trip becomes more about the lifestyle i.e. a car club meet with activities involving the cars.

At this point it's looking like I'm pushing forward with the main End of Summer event. If it works out where there's a road trip leading up to the main event, awesome, but we will still have the main event.

I agree Trev. Im all about (and hoping for) west coasters to participate, but this is a thread for an EAST COAST end of summer Event. The more that show up from out west, the better...but i think the jkx style cross country tour should be a separate event.
Just my $.02

I'm with you and Trevor! It would be awesome for some West Coast guys to come and wheel with us Southern boys. But if they plan on coming all this way, I think they can plan their own trip, like hit Moab or Colorado on their way home or something? At least that's what I would do if I made a trip out West lol.

Just from reading this thread and the pictures from the previous trip, I have to say I'm all in to go. As long as I can get the week off of work, you can count me in! Wherever the trip may take me.😎

Giving my $.02575
Windrock should be the place we do this. Camping (RV, camper and tent) Cabins and/or hotels within minutes. They also have a area (pavilion) to gather for a evening cookout for everyone. There is even Badminton for Trevor. The staging area at the store has tons of parking. There are enough trails anyone could ride for a week. So we could plan a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and a night ride.

This event should be at one spot. That makes it easier for everyone to plan. If you want to do other rides at other trail destinations that will be your choice.

I believe Kendawg has the best idea. I mean Windrock literally has everything we could need. Hotels, camping, food, enough trails to last for days, and tons of room. I really can't think of a better place to have it

That's definitely option 1. It was my first thought once I saw the size of this year's run. I'm in the works of putting it together and will continue to update with progress and details.

I my opinion!! I think that any west coasters that read this will not even give it a thought at this point, no matter how many time I read these types of post they just seem rude! call it a northeastern thing or a masswhole thing but the showing of southern hospitality is very disappointing.

I couldn't agree more. My plan(s) at this point do not include a southern swing. It's easier for me to plan something in the MI, IN, OH, & PA area and it doesn't seem like the south wants anyone but themselves in this ride.

I know this isn't the feeling of everyone, but it is the feelings of enough at this point that I am no longer interested in being a part of it.

Not to be a middle man, but im thinking (hoping) that what jkwebbie was trying to say, is that a west coaster could do something similar to the trek yall made to the rubicon run. At least, thats how i read it. If thats not how it was meant, then im claiming my Michigan roots. Lol.
