I used to really be into the backpacking community on youtube. When I first started watching that guy, he annoyed the shit out of me, but the more I watched him, I really liked him. Regardless, he has great hammock and backpacking knowledge. He's a part time carnie or circus performer.

Definitely a wealth of knowledge. Next week I need to pull the trigger on a sleeping pad and I will be set.

I got a bag rated at 30, being in NC, we don't have many nights dropping below that from spring to fall. Was thinking about a thermarest but I have no experience here. Being that it will be in a hammock, maybe something inflatable isn't the best option.

I hear ya. I love thermarest but have no experience with them from a hammock point of view. Do you even need one in a hammock? Doesn't the underquilt insulate you?

Good point. I guess the right thing to do is to try it first without a pad on a cold night when my fiancé locks me out and then see if I need to buy one [emoji12][emoji12][emoji12]

I've used a Thermarest for years...they are great; just don't fill it to the max and they are very comfortable.

I backpacked the Na Pali coast of Kauai for 4 weeks over 30 years ago...I had a surplus military hammock/tent combo...by the third night, I set it up on the ground, since sleeping in a slight "U" shape was killing my back.

Ever since I herniated a disc in the L5/S1 10 years ago, my backpacking days were over...and I love rolling into camp with my trailer, unbuckling 4 snaps, and watch gas assist struts set up the JB hardtop in 6 seconds...sleeping bag & mattress already to go.

No doubt your trailer is a sweet setup. One day I will be there. When it's time, I'll dig into the thermarest for sure, thanks.

Caught the Bug
I've had the same Thermarest for 15 years. It's a self-inflating 3/4 length (lighter for backpacking). Always camp on the ground though, hammocks just seem like they'd be awful on the ol' back... Paired with a 20° for the colder months and a 50° for the rest. I wouldn't camp in any season without the Thermarest.

I read a couple articles that said it would start Wed. I don't know if that means this week or next. We'll probably stop in over the weekend and see what's cooking.
