Trail essentials- What tools to Carry Offroad

Lots of stuff listed in the original post and then added to by other posters. The only thing I could think of was a spare brake line. I have a spare steel braided line in case I catch one again on something.

Nice list of items. I would take some on some trips and others on different trips. Because of all the weight I empty my Jeep completely after I get home from an off road trip.

Another great idea.

I hear you on "heavy". I've only wheeled one major trip with it all. It did fine but it was heavy!!!!!

What about weight...what is a reasonable weight for all this extra gear....I mean how much is too much and when do you worry about a backward rollover when entering at slope if you have a ton of weight in the back end.

I tend to make sure I have extra pins for the high lift
I also carry two axes. Been places for dispersed camping and needed a bit more than a saw to fall some dead trees. One for me and the guest... Speeds up the process

I admire you guys that carry extra shafts and u joints... I don't have the skill set to fix stuff on the trail such as welding or replacing u joints... I am learning off YouTube since you can do anything after looking at some vids...

Most of my gear is set up for recovery and easy trail fixes...

Zip ties are amazing in a pinch...the big 175 lbs load ones are awesome.

You might want to do a search if you haven't. There are several threads addressing this with some great information and ideas.

Thanks for those links.

OP I was going to reply on this thread but will reply on one of the links CCTX50 posted for the sake of organization.

Don't forget the bolt extractor kits for stripped or broken bolts.

• Screw extractor bits
• Center punch
• Center drill bit
• Hammer on bolt extractor sockets

I always throw the hammock and sleeping bag in when I go. You never know when you're gonna break bad enough to spend the night on the trail. Ask me how i know.
