EAST Meets WEST: August 2020 Moab/Telluride Planning Thread

There’s a few BLM sites along the rivers about 10 minutes from town. They are usually $15/night and first come first serve. That’s my plan

Have you camped at those locations before?

I didn't camp at those but I passed them every morning and they look like really nice sites along the river. They filled up quick for the weekend though. Getting there in the middle of the week would allow you to
take your pick I bet.

What is everyone doing for lodging in Ouray?

I’ve got a reservation at the KOA for a tent camping sight. As of right now, I’ll just be tent camping. Weather is supposed to be nice! They have cabins available, there are some hotels left as well in downtown Ouray. They are a little pricy though since this is COs busy season!

Ok. Still trying to figure out what I am going to do.

I like to haul my Jeep on long trips like this. But parking a truck/trailer in some places sucks. Doesn't look like the hotels in Ouray have much parking.

Depending on the house situation in Moab I might end up just hauling the camper and figuring out a place to camp in each location.

Looks like you can have 2 vehicles, or 1 truck/ trailer per site, $20 per night, and the Sand flats $15 per night. Still not sure about camping (kind of warm for me)?

I think it will cool down nicely in the evening. I’m not sure what I’ll end up doing though.

They usually cool down really well. I’ve been there when it’s 90s during the day and 40s at night along the river. The canyons are a whole lot cooler than town.

Have you camped at those locations before?

I’ve stayed at the group spots that are part of these sites several times.

I’m planning on pulling in that Thursday night so I would think that finding a spot won’t be too bad. Plus it’ll be July 30th and I can’t imagine Moab will be too packed in summer lol

I sooo wish I could go in this with my JT. Unfortunately it starts as soon as I get home, and is too close to a planned family vacation. Same thing is happening with EJS. Work and travel: story of my life. [emoji58]

That’s good to hear. Keep me posted on where you stay, maybe I’ll try and get a spot close to you. I’ll send you a PM with my # so can stay in touch.

You’ll have to meet up with us for one if the shake down runs this side of the Mississippi.

I did see that many places (cycle shops and some outfitters) around Moab have shower and costs around $5.

Camp grounds have showers. Technically they’re $5 or $8 if you’re not a guest, but I’ve heard if you go when the office is closed there’s no way to pay 🤷🏼*♂️

If I decide to camp, it would be cool trying to stay in a group. Hoping they have showers at the camp areas?

If there’s a few more interested we could look into a group site as well.

Found a decent spot at the Ridgeway State Park campground about 20 minutes north of Ouray. Reservations opened today for the dates of the trip.

Now I just need to find somewhere in Moab I can fit my truck/trailer.

I’ll have mine at the terra del sol condos. I’ll ask them if there’s a decent sized parking area we can keep them at.
