Turbocharged 6.2, now your talking. You really would leave everybody behind on the desert trails then.

LS swaps are less money, way more aftermarket support, and they dont have the over heating issues that the Hemi's do. If/when I do a swap, I'll be going with an LS as well. The novelty of the big Hemi wears off quick when you read about the heating issues and what not.

Because they are heavy motors, nobody else has spare parts and nobody wants to smell that on the trail.

That 3.0 EcoDiesel isn't any heavier than the 5.7 LS motor and out performs on fuel mileage and TQ. Why would you need spare parts? When was the last time you cracked a head or manifold on the trails? You don't want to smell what? Most diesels don't have a smell anymore as the exhaust burns everything up.

Also should note that seems like everyone have trouble with overheating on the V8 JK's.

How much does the Eco diesel cost? Good luck finding one in a junkyard. Good luck building a custom wiring harness for install.

I also disagree with the smell. Maybe it doesn't smell as much as the old diesel trucks but it still smells.

I'd say you could get one pretty easy and cheaper than a 6.2 LS or 5.7 Hemi with parts being very easy to get as they have been in use for 20 years overseas.

Quick search I found one for 3,500.

Overseas. That's the only thing I need to read to decide that it wouldn't be cheaper.

getting one may be easy as you say (I dont know personally ...) but as stated above you still need to get it wired. The Hemi and LS both have companies that make the harness for those engines so they work with the JK. You cant just go grab any old engine off the street and throw it in the Jeep and have it function with all OEM functions.

Don't know about the ecodiesel, but many of the diesel engines that will fit into a JK also require at least a 4" lift to clearance parts. That's probably not an issue for many folks, but the possible second order effect of that is the engine must be pretty tall. So, you get 4" of lift only to have a good portion of it taken away because your engine is now hanging lower compared to the frame. My 6.0 sits nicely in my JK with 2.5" of lift and could have with no lift.

LOL!! In case it was missed, we already chose to buy and install a 6.2 LS. We were able to get it AND a 6L80 transmission with low miles for about $5000. And, as mentioned, MoTech has a kit to make it work on a JK. The 6.2 has more power than a 5.7 HEMI, has a ton of aftermarket support, parts can be found anywhere, is tuneable and upgradable. We do not have over heating issues and the motor is about the same size and weight as a 3.6 pentastar - no hammering of the firewall was required to make it fit and no lift was required to install it. Bottom line is, this is what we chose to get but of course, you're free to get whatever you want on your Jeep :yup:

Oh, last but not least, I really hate the smell of diesel rigs and I have NEVER seen a jeep or otherwise on the trail that doesn't stink. But, that's just me
