35s - Would I be missing out?

First, I love my jeep and how it rides. It performs flawlessly for what I need and can probably do a whole lot more than I have done with it so far. But if I were building now and wasn't too concerned about money I'd go with EVO's bolt-on coilovers. If for no other reason than they are the latest technology, have a little more travel, and frankly look badass!

However, I would never put my livelihood at risk for a vehicle. If it were me and I were in a similar situation, and could afford it, I'd buy the 4" Enforcer with draglink flip kit and skip the Kings. Run some Bilsteins until cash reserves are built up. Then upgrade to King shocks or coilovers if you feel you need/want them. Somebody tired of their stiff ass ride will buy the EVO ones which will help defray the cost of the upgrade.

FWIW--I too was going to go with a BB and maybe 33's before Sharkey talked me into the Enforcer. It was way more than I had intended to do and spend on the jeep. But I'm glad I did it. Of course now I'm addicted and am eyeing the DTD EVO lever which is a whole different discussion. :crazy eyes: But a stock jeep is plenty capable and a BB with bigger tires makes it all the more capable!

Well said. If budget is an issue, I wouldn't hesitate to go with the Enforcer kit and call it a day. It's probably the most comfortable traditional kit you can get that also performs exceptionally well. :yup:

And don't forget all the other stuff that goes along with the build... wayalife swag (not tattoos), wheel, tires, beer money for suds and grub, gas money for all the runs etc. ;)

I have driven one of the editors of a well known Offroad magazine's 2013 JK with this exact set up that Wayolife is writing about. It is absolutely the BEST riding system I have ever felt on any Offroad vehicle ever. Period. Now on the other hand when I bought my JK it originally had a Teraflex 3" short arm that performed well offroad and absolutely sucked on road, it had one of the harshest rides I have ever experienced. It looked pretty good though, and by the way I ran 35"s (well BFG KM2's, so really a 33" tire) and I took my rig on trails that people said only 37" tires or bigger could do. So basically I think everyone on here has done the natural progression of running 35"s at some point, and more importantly before JK's 35"s were a huge tire on TJ's, YJ's, and CJ's. Nothing wrong with a 35" or at least until you park next to a jeep with 37"s or 40"s My old set up below:

Your jeep looked great in the JKX vid. When I decide to go bigger, i'll likely go coil-over for the exact reasons you mention here.

However, I would never put my livelihood at risk for a vehicle. If it were me and I were in a similar situation, and could afford it, I'd buy the 4" Enforcer with draglink flip kit and skip the Kings. Run some Bilsteins until cash reserves are built up. Hey man, I've got a four door, so i can practically live in the thing. :cheesy: I won't be risking anything, just thinking it's a big jump from where I'm at to where the jeep will need to be for 37s, especially the more I learn. I have the money to drop right now and all things would probably be just fine. But when nobody provides my paychecks except me, it's just something to always remember.

I could always do a stripped down EVO ENF, but as noted earlier, by the time I get there, I'll likely just go to coilovers. But I'll certainly talk with EVO about the options. I just like to have a general idea looking forward of what I want.

And don't forget all the other stuff that goes along with the build--recovery gear, bumpers, tire carrier, winch, armor, roll cage, DS, wayalife swag (not tattoos), wheel, tires, beer money for suds and grub, gas money for all the runs etc. ;) Of course now I'm addicted and am eyeing the DTD EVO lever which is a whole different discussion. :crazy eyes: But a stock jeep is plenty capable and a BB with bigger tires makes it all the more capable!
Sucks to be in your shoes in that you want to make the right decision. However just know it doesn't end once you make one...there is always something to add...now where is that thread on the 2012 PSC system? LOL!

Amen. I've said all along..."Stock jeep better than not Jeep."

Yep, I've learned quickly what Jeep stands for. But it doesn't suck to be me. I just discovered this whole Jeep thing so I'm pretty cool with it all. Learning is part of the process. The fact I can add an extra tier to my build, if I choose, might make this even better.

Well said. If budget is an issue, I wouldn't hesitate to go with the Enforcer kit and call it a day. It's probably the most comfortable traditional kit you can get that also performs exceptionally well. :yup: A man who know's what's important :thumb: :cheesy:

Couldn't agree with you more. I hated my TF coils - way too stiff for my taste and I'm glad that it's not just me.

Yep, Sean's. That thing totally changed my preconceived notion of what a traditional coil spring lift could be, Mel nailed it with that set up

Well, when I hit up EVO for my sliders and armor (skins/skid), I'll certainly be talking with them about this kit as an entry level with maybe some options for shocks.

Thanks for the words GCM. All noted and appreciated.:thumb:

If Mel has a rig there with that set up, he will get you a test ride.....by all means take it! It will shock the hell out of you how sweet that ride is. But honestly, like Wayolife mentioned very early in your thread, if budget is a concern.....just do a budget boost and trim your fenders. You keep a nice stock ride and get the benefits of more than enough lift (and most importantly, the look of a lift) with the fender trim

BTW, here's a shot of Moby on the Moab Rim Trail back when he was on 35's - actually, only 305's so even smaller...
main.php

Another shot of Moby cresting a very tall and difficult ledge on Metal Masher with Cindy behind the wheel of course...

Nemo out on Achy Breaky with 35's
main.php

Nemo on the Rubicon running 35's and no lockers... oh, and with Cindy is behind the wheel again too :)
main.php

These are tough trails and 35's got the job done. If it makes more financial sense for you to run them, do it and don't even look back.

.......

I have seen guys on 40"s not make it up this obstacle. Fact is, it was the driver's inexperience, not the jeep because like Moby here, guys on 35"s went right up it :thumb:

Since there was a discussion of the MC 6 pak shocks on here, thought I might chime in. OK, you will get alot of travel, BUT it's a freakin gimmick IMO. I do believe pro rock crawlers, desert racers, freakin landrover even and anyone else with higher end suspensions would have done this already if it was worth the time. Are they running gimmicky shocks? I do believe these 6 pak shocks are the Slapchop of the jk world. JMOHO.

Wait...are you talking about the Enforcer, the bolt-on coilovers, or something new in the works? I got confused somewhere along the way.

My opinion, I personally was going to do 35's since its a daily driver for my wife and I. However I think I'm going to make the jump to 37's just in case I get the JKX call ;) but I think 35's are more than sufficient for most people.

Awesome! What kind of lift were you running back then out of curiosity?

Only the Enforcer kit. That's why I referenced "traditional coil spring" lifts.

So I take it from this that the JKX will only accept 37s. Is that just because of the tough trails that you run on the JKX? I have seen all the videos but it's always hard to tell the tire sizes. I'm sure I have read a thread about the JKX requirements but just don't remember.

Ok so at this point it's a matter of 3" or 4" Enforcer for me. I'd like to keep it as low as possible so if 3" will work I'll probably go that route due to COG and all. Do you remove the Enforcer lift to install the coil overs?

I honestly wish I had done a simple lift first cause I did $800 worth of damage to my exhaust this first time through CO on Upper Reno Divide. Although I was the only Jeep that didn't have to use my winch (Lockers and granny 4.10) I could have used about another 2 inches of lift to clear the obstacle. We had to build tire ramps with rocks to get me over. The offending rock grabbed the resonator and yanked the exhaust loose at the manifold. That money could have been put to good use for more mods.

Gotcha, thanks...I thought maybe you were referencing a new 2013 traditional coil spring lift. I have to say that when we finished MTG's Enforcer install and took it for a first drive, I was shocked at how well it drove on the road. I have only driven two other lifted JK's, but the Enforcer's ride and straight tracking blew me away.
