Johnny- if you haven't already bought the gears yet, stay away from 5.13 in a Dana 30. Go 4.88

Yes I did see ur pic n I am at odds at what to do cus I get so many different opinions frm people the guy that's doin the work is a very reputable Jeep mechanic in So Cal n tells me it will be fine n I wheel w/ a few guys that have beefed up D30 front axles w/ no issues runnin 35" tires like me n guys on the other side tellin me not to do it so its a toss up.
What proof of anything do you have to add to this conversation besides what you have read on the Internet? Bonjour

That's what I did and worked, but I had the stock 4.10 gears in it. With the trails I was doing I didn't feel like it would last, so I went and got the PR44, locked and RCV's.
If I was you I would do the PR44. With the $$ your putting into the D30 you will have over half the cost of the PR44 with locker and RCV's.
Just giving you my 2 cents.
IMO, The locker is the issue there. The dana 30 just shouldn't be locked up, no matter what size tires you are running.

There is nothing wrong with running a locked dana30 with the appropriate sized tires.
When you get into larger tires, yes you will see some damage to axle shafts because of having a locker.
I am the Devils advocate to this whole thread because I ran a locked hp dana30 with 36's for years with stock shafts and no issues(tj not jk)

I realize weight is an issue but remember I said my JK is a 2 door and they r much lighter than the 4 door. Anyways so much good info to consider I really appreciate it

So are you trying to say I don't wheel?
OK, I can only say irregradlessly so many times and not have someone tell I am trying to use it as a joke. Sorry Levi I was just messing with you- yes, if the locker wasn't in the dana 30, the carrier would probably still be fine.
Did everyone on here know that there's a guy who ran 44's on a D30 with 5.13's and he BEAT THE SHIT* out of his rig!!! He had no problems with his D30 at all!
*beat the shit out of=parking on to side of theroad on a level ditch to watch fireworks last 4th of July
I'm running 5.13's in a 30 with 35's, not locked is it weak yes do i like the performance yes when I get the money together it's pro rock time, for the time being easy on the skinny pedal and strategically picking my lines. Oh wait it get s better it's sleeved gusseted and trussed lol flame away![]()
