Jdofmemi and the yet unnamed Jeep rebuild

So tonight's project is the PSC big bore box.
I'm sure glad to do it while the axle is not in the way. What a bear to get in by yourself. This thing is HEAVY.

Now it's in, the first steering hose screwed right in. The second one, every time it gets where it is going to catch a thread, it pops up and won't catch.

The box came with adapter fittings to plug the holes. Those came out just fine, and went in the old box just fine as well.
I pulled it back out of the old box, and it threads in first try. I compare threads with the hose that won't go. Same thing. I clean the threads, again, in case I missed something. Try again, same damn thing.
I have seriously been nearly an hour trying to get one hose fitting started🤯

I'm fixing to give it up for the night and try again tomorrow.

Congrats on your upgrades subscribed can’t wait to see the new axle go in.
That big bore looks challenging for doing it yourself but you got it bro just take time with it.

I remember mine wanting to pop up too. There’s just no room there to help get it to grab. Try adjusting the line so it wants to almost push the fitting into the hole verses at an slight angle or holding well a bit the gear. Mine eventually grabbed and went right in.

That PSC is a beast hoisting up in there. I ended up lowering the last one I installed down from the top. I just pulled the coolant res and lowered it in place.

All worth it though, congrats!

I had very similar issues. I lowered mine down and supported my steering box with some wood so I had better access to get my lines started. There is no hand or knuckle room up there when the box is bolted in. I got both lines started then picked it back up and bolted it in. Then finished tightening things up.

Well, I had to meet Brown Santa at his field office, but he had the goods 😁😁😁

Got them home and opened the box to some awesome looking axles. Damn they are heavy. That's good.

Then I went on the attack on the line to the PSC box that kicked my ass last night. With a new attitude and fresh fingers, I got it together in five minutes.

I am unbolted and raised the computer and other crap to get more clearance, as I was not lowering that heavy bastard once I had it up there.

Now that's done, I can start putting the axle in👍

Good you made some nice progress. That PSC is a lot of work man glad you got it figured out.

Oh those axles are looking good.

Giving up for the night.

Axles in the garage. I couldn't quite get the axle to balance on the jack stands without help, so tomorrow I will pull it into place somehow.

With any luck I will be able to test drive it by the end of the weekend, then get on to the rest of the work.

If you have furniture dollies it works well. I just put both sides on one and rolled it to where I needed and then jacked each side up to start getting arms in place. Gives you the ability to adjust it around a little to line things up. Nice progress though!

Thanks

I will probably just clear the crap out of the way, get it close, and leave it on the forks. It will be easy enough to slide around that way. It's just a PITA to climb in and out to make adjustments.

I was just done today. Started my day at 2. I'm surprised I'm still up.

Well, did you get anything accomplished today?

🤣🤣🤣

Actually I did. James (Baddestcross) was down, and he helped line up the axle so it is now bolted in. Did I mention that it's a heavy bastard?

We flexed it, and I need to add some bump stop to it, plus my driveshaft is now too long. Get this, it's 2" too long.

I shortened the sleeve in the shock bushings like you mentioned so now they don't rotate on their own. Thanks for the tip.

Once we had a shock on we flexed it to check clearance, and there is plenty everywhere.

The Ried knuckles move the drag link down enough to gain some frame clearance. Where my old set up nearly rubbed, and the lock bolts played hell with the wire harness, now there is over an inch of clearance, no protruding bolts to hang up in the wire loom, and it's much beefier as well.
