I've never lived at a place long enough to see what works, lol. But I've pulled many decades old posts and they all rot right at the same spot.

Yup, every single one was rotted in the same place. I just thought it was from over aggressive weed-wacking while drinking.
Oh man, I really hate when people do that! Just dig an appropriate deep hole and sink in a proper size post. Wooden ones like this ALL go bad eventually and WILL need to be replaced. The concrete just makes life shitty in the future.The old posts are concreted in so when the post breaks at the ground level there is still a 3-ft diameter ball of concrete underground that needs to be broken into pieces or dug out.Where is the TNT or dynamite when you need it? Gonna need to drink the whiskey to kill the rotator cuff pain tonight.

Look into using the treated round posts- 5” dia. My brother in law has a pounder for the back of his tractor that did a great job. Skid steers have an attachment that does this as well - they’re friggin nice.

Yup - did the same the first go round. We did about 300 posts back when I as slightly younger & thought that shit was fun….the thought of doing that now with a tractor with those shitty hydraulics…..barf

I plan to concrete the gate posts only. I am not going to put too much effort or $$ into it, it just needs to restrain a well supervised puppy then young dog until we make our move to Nevada. Once in Nevada I’ll build the 8th wonder of the world!

More fence work today.
The old poles break off and come out pretty easily but the concrete balls must be smashed up and pulled out in pieces. This is about a third of the ball
I had to trim back this hedge to have clear access to the fence. It was overdue
The lawn tractor gate needs to be rebuilt.

Got 18 fruit and nut trees planted over the last couple weeks. I think that’ll do for this year. Maybe skip next year and add some more year after.

Me either. Tennessee does a tree sale every year. You can buy trees and they are dirt cheap. Like $2. They didn’t have what we ordered this year because the trees didn’t do well so the substitute was choke berry.Interesting, never heard of chokeberry, had to look it up. Sounds like it’s pretty beneficial.

When does the tractor show up? Got half the garden beds in today. About 6.5 yards of compost moved by hand into my gorilla cart and then unloaded. At least I could pull the cart with the mower. Luckily my brother was here to help. The rest we can do tomorrow. Between the rows will be wood chips to keep the weeds at bay.
NICE!! A tractor would have definitely helped make this a bit easier
