So far what I've identified as the requirements:
T176 manual transmission
Straight 6 engine
Little to no rust, especially on the body
Preferably no lift

Few more seat ideas. Really digging this first look but not sure how safe it'd be with car seats.

Slightly different take on it

So did anything come of the Scrambler you looked at?
I don't think so, as disappointing as that is. I joined some Scrambler groups on Facebook to get their opinions and here is some of what they said.

Based on that, what you guys said, and my own opinion of it, I think I'm going to look for something else. I'd rather spend a bit more and not have a questionable rust situation on my hands. I can't afford to replace the whole body.

Following Eddie's advice, I've expanded my search to CA, NV, and NM. Really the whole country at this point, but the rust situation will be better if the Jeep comes from a drier climate.

If I find a few good options, I may actually put together a multi-stop tour of the country, flying from one Scrambler to the next. When I find the right one, I'll drive it back home. It'd be a heck of an adventure, probably cost <$1000 and I'd hope to get one in great shape.

Got a new lead on a Scrambler in Georgia. It'd be a heck of a drive but it has the specs I want. Pics and video coming soon. Owner is grabbing some more for me and then sending them over.

That dude from Mississippi
Yup. I'd drive to Nevada or somewhere, like that, to get the right one. Especially if it had been somewhere dry and didn't have a lot of rust.
