It'd be great to see pics and details of homemade solutions for extended spare support thingys.

And that's a shame. The original Daystar extended isolators worked great but somewhere along the line, they changed the material they are made out of. I have since used a control arm bushing to help extend a factory isolator and that setup works great. I'm sure this can be done with a hockey puck as well and I will try to do a write-up for it.

Only pic I have. It is 1" hose from O'Reilly.
I measured the gap to my spare.
I removed the spare.
Shoved hose in and cut just a little longer than the gap was.
Reinstalled spare.

Only a temporary measure for me. I hope to get the spare off of the tailgate before I drag it on something and damage the gate. I do keep a drawbar w/o ball in the hitch hoping it will take the load of scraping if needed.
