Pros and cons of no rear bumper

I have the genright steel carrier and have been very happy so far with it. I just recently went bumperless as well which I wanted to do in the beginning. I did this to save weight and get a better departure angle. I liked the genright due to the tire being inside rather than outside like the orfab one. I would have went evo but didnt think I needed something on that level yet since I am only running 35s and wont go over a 37...eventhough the genright is rated to hold a 40 when you flip the mount up. I have no rattles or anything and this carrier does work with a stock wheel which is nice. I also like how it matches the tubing size of my evo stinger. I went steel for the price as well, it doesnt weight too much more than the alum.

only "decent" pics I have, need to take a better one

Yeah yeah yeah, you're awesome, have 4.75" of back spacing and because of it, were able to install your $700 tire carrier without any jiggling of the spare, we got it. I still have yet to see a single tailgate fail at the hinges but, it if helps you to sleep better at night having this thing installed on your Jeep, more power to you :thumb:

For everyone else who might be running less back spacing or bead locks with 3.5" of back spacing, you might want to look at something else as you won't be able to install your spare right.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're awesome also and we get it that you don't like the TF tire carrier. I'm giving my experience and I'm not being sarcastic about your comments. OP go to another forum if you want to hear about more than one experience. There are lots of forums out there. Good luck!!

:cheesy: Why thank you and yes, there are a lot of other forums out there. Perhaps you should spend more of your time on them if you find this one to be so offensive :thumb:

Not offended. I just would prefer to not have sarcastic comments about my opinions or trying to infer that those who bought the TF tire carrier or any other product that is not liked or sponsored on this site, somehow wasted there money.

:cheesy: Here we go with the stupidness. You don't like what I have to say about products you have chosen to buy and so it must be because the company who makes it isn't a sponsor. :thumb: Here's a newsflash genius, WE HAVE NO SPONSORS here on this forum ;)

Having said all that, I would also like to point out that this is a forum, a place where people discuss and share the opinions and like you, am just sharing mine. Personally, I do think you wasted your money and even think that your rear bumper looks like ass but again, that's just my opinion. Now, if you like it, that should be the only thing matters.

Thanks for your Input. I don't think I will have any problems with the teraflex carrier and a 35" tire. I wouldn't want to put a 40" on it but I never will need to.

Should have no problem. I have 35's and maybe 37's is pushing it, but I know a 40" would not work. It really is a great tire carrier for the average enthusiast.

I don't have a problem with what you say, but I have only been here a short time and have felt many comments are sarcastic in such a way as to inflame a poster or thread. If that's not your intent, then I apologize for attacking your posts. I know my TF and MC setup is perfect for my situation.

That Metal Cloak rear bumper looks terrible. The lines on it make it look like that thing isn't even made for a JK ... Just sayin'.

Ummm, if you didn't have a problem, you wouldn't have a "but".... wait, does that sound right?

I know my TF and MC setup is perfect for my situation.

And again, THAT'S ALL THAT SHOULD MATTER. It's yours and you're the only one who needs to be happy with it.

How dare you share your opinion like that!! Clearly, they're not a sponsor of yours. :cheesy:

I liked the no bumper thing so much I am going with a complete "aftermarketless manufactureless" approach to building my rig. This way I cannot promote one and/or put down another manufacturer's kit unknowingly. It's different, but I think it may catch on......

not yet, I have actually been working on a "cover" for it but didnt have time yet to finish this weekend. I dont feel like the stock plastic crap would do anything in an accident except maybe help slightly. What I made which is in my build just basically finishes off the end. there are a few guys on jkf that have ran bumperless for years with no issues. I did paint the pinch seam black which really makes it look like a different part rather than like something is missing there.

That's a great way to save weight, and I bet the gas mileage is great :D

So I finally smashed the plastic hunk of junk in the back pretty bad and was thinking about just pulling it off and running without a bumper and using bolt on d-ring mounts. I like the way it looks and functions and like that it saves weight. My only concern is that the tiny portion of the body is now exposed to damage coming off of a big rock. Has anyone had an instance of this happening?

Look into the EVO rear fascia. It works with Drings too. Clean look and don't have the weight of a full aftermarket bumper.
