Looks like we will have almost as large a group for the pre-run as for the kick-off. Got my radios ready and looking forward to the pre-run..

Have a CB but quite frankly isn’t dialed in yet . Picked up the grounding strap in eddies post — still need to grind some black paint off of the TF tire carrier that the antenna is mounted to . Hopefully can get it dialed in before the trip

Lisa and I should be in the afternoon early evening on Thursday. We'll be in for the Friday run as well.

Just a reminder, a CB Radio is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for this trip. If you've already got one, please post up a pic so that we can remind all those who don't have that they'll be left out of the fun! ;) :D

Also, if you're not a fan of CB radios because you can't hear anything, you've got weeks to get it dialed in. First and foremost, you NEED TO MAKE SURE that it's installed correctly. As in, it is very important to have the shoulders of the nylon washer sitting INSIDE the mount bracket hole. The stud MUST NOT make contact with the bracket. See diagram below for proper installation. Proper installation alone will make a HUGE DIFFERENCE in the performance of your CB!

Also, IF you have your antenna mounted on your tailgate, you NEED TO MAKE SURE that it's grounded to the frame using a heavy gauge wire or ground strap.

Last but not least, you'll get the most out of your CB Radio IF you make sure to tune your antenna. In order to do this, you will need an SWR meter like the one shown here:

IF you are using a portable antenna with a magnetic base, you will not need to ground anything or tune the antenna.

If you don't have a CB Radio, everything you'll need to get started in a pinch can be purchased through the links below:

I feel like this is directed towards me..haha. Just received my ground strap. Hopefully it'll fix the SWR issue I've been having. Now to squeeze some time I'm for Jeep stuff. Here is a pic of the problematic Cobra 75.

Hotels are booked, I’m not sure if I’ll make it Thursday night or not. Depends when I get the motor in 😂

Going to order this today as a traditional set up isn't in the cards quite yet. Do you guys think I need an external antenna to go along with it?

I've never used one of the CB handhelds, but I know a mag-mount external antenna does wonders for the distance and clarity of the handheld "race" radios. I assume the same would apply for a CB model.

Cobra 75. SWR is shit. OK for close comms not so good DX. Have a new antenna on order. Biggest gripe is receiver volume, can barely hear it when driving on rough terrain, gonna have to rig an external speaker or something.
