Front axle leak tell me what I need to do.

There’s a few options for 35 spline shafts whether it’s front or rear. I still say it’s worth it if you plan on sticking to 37’s. If there’s even the slightest chance you want to go 40’s down the road, keep adding fluid and save your money[emoji23]

Thanks Bubba, I am just tossing back and fourth to do just the housing and or a complete and be done with it. I will be calling you soon to place the order.

I don’t think it matters anymore. This thread went from ‘help my axle is leaking’ to ‘help me convince myself I need 60s’

LOL, no I don't need convincing I just needed a better understanding of what I am getting myself into and making sure I understood all my options first. When you start looking at complete PR44 and see a set of 60 for a few thousands more I just want to make sure I am making the right decision. With 60s comes a lot more stuff I was not completely clear on until I started asking. I have held off re-gearing because I did not want to sink money into the stock front and now I am glad I didn't because I was unaware of the smaller Rubi locker and what I would I need to do to go from 30-35 splines. I have learn a lot from you all over the past week and cant thank you all enough.

I mean I’m cool with that too, just curious

I hit a significant size hole like 6-8 inches deep and 2 feet wide so the entire passenger size dipped into it doing 45-50 down a trail. It damn near through my wife out the window (just adding that for drama) and at one point I think I bounced and skipped across the trail. Got home parked the jeep, woke up the next morning and shes been leaking ever since.

So, to make sure I understand this correctly Dynatrac makes two different front PR44 axles. One for a Rubicon that I can swap all my internals into, and the other I would need to buy a standard locker and new shafts. So, I can’t buy the Rubicon PR44 and swap all stock internal over for a short time and then down the road upgrade the locker to the standard/normal ARB air locker and 35 spline axles because of difference in the carrier bearing diameter of the two pumpkins?

If I want to go with standard ARB locker and 35 spline axles that means I must purchase the non-Rubicon PR44 with the standard ARB locker and 35 spline axles out the gate?

Correct. You need to pick one housing or the other.

You can run an OX locker in a PR44 Rubicon version with 35 splines.

I think the ARB157 is 35 spline and fits the rubicon 44.

Of course, running 35 splines means new axle shafts too. Your stock shafts are 32 spline rear and 30 spline front.

I got this from Dynatrac FAQs.

"In addition to this there is also a locker being manufactured by ARB which fits into the JK electric locker PR44 pumpkin. This locker part number is RD157. We do not approve this locker for use with OEM stock or Dynatrac JK 44 pumpkins. It will not setup correctly and we have tested it extensively with our ProRock 44 and also the stock JK 44 pumpkins. In both cases the locker fails to setup correctly and we do not recommend its use. The RD157 is not approved for use in JK 44 pumpkins by Dynatrac."

Yeah I remember seeing that when I went with a PR44 a few years ago.

I don’t have the ARB 157 so can’t comment based on personal experience. Just going on what I see on the ARB site.

I’ll say my OE Rubicon locker with only 30 splines has worked great. Staying with that saved me a grand when I upgraded to the PR44 housing.

No, incorrect. The Rubicon housing can be used for a 35 spline locker.

From my own personal experience I can vouch for the OX 35 spline locker in a Rubicon PR44. Been there, done that.

Did Dynatrac do something different to accommodate this? Last I heard (granted it's been a few years) they didn't have an option for that?

A PR44 set up to run the factory locker is machined so it uses the bearings for a factory locker, and OX makes a 35 spline locker to replace the factory locker, so that’s the solution. Any PR44 built to run 30 spline axles however, will have bushings installed for the smaller axles seals and those bushings will have to be removed to accommodate the seals for 35 spline shafts. It’s a major pain in the dick to remove them but I have made a tool specific to the job which made it pretty easy.
