How Many Times have you been Pulled Over in Your Jeep?

Caught the Bug
The inevitable just happened, I got pulled over for no mud flapsI have the Teraflex quick disconnect mud flaps already installed just thought I'd see if I can get by without them.

Did you get a ticket or did he let you go with a warning/fixit ticket?

I thought I was getting pulled over in some podunk town in California yesterday on the way back from KOH. I didn't bother to put my mudflaps either. Got a very hard look from the officer as I drove by. Luckily I was "only" texting on my phone and had slowed down to just above the speed limit. :cheesy:

He was cool and just said I need mud flaps that cover the whole width of the tire. No fix it ticket.

Okay, here's one where I didn't actually get lit up but, still ended up having a chat with the CHP. :D

On the way out to our annual end of summer party up in the mountains, I noticed a CHP officer sitting on the side of the highway looking for someone to nab. Steady in our lane and doing the speed limit, I was hoping that he'd think nothing of us but, soon after passing him, I looked in my rear view mirror and saw he had pulled out with a purpose and was heading our way. One by one, I watched with grief as the officer passed up each Jeep in our caravan. When he caught up to us, he pulled along side and the officer started to make a motion with his hand that I thought was a signal to "pull over". Assuming the worst, I got ready to do just that when much to my surprise, the CHP suddenly slowed up and made a U-turn - what a relief!

After meeting up with a few other friends and topping off our tanks at a gas station near by, I just happened to see a black and white car pulling off the highway and heading right for us. Of course, as the car got closer, I noticed that it was in fact the exact same CHP from earlier that morning and after coming to a stop, the officer inside got out and started walking right for our JK. At the time, I was standing in front of the mini-mart and was at least a good 40 feet away and in the middle of a small crowd but, as soon as the officer saw me, he changed course and marched on over. Holding my breath and expecting the worst, I was stupefied to hear him say... "hey - I'm sorry about what happened earlier, I wasn't trying to freak you out... I've seen all your videos and love them - I just wanted to say hello."

Go figure :whew::crazyeyes: :D :cool:

By far the best one ive heard haha! Getting pretty popular eh Eddie? :D

He went on to say "Do you have any idea what it's like to ride a bike and get hit by a rock?"

I guess VA doesn't like bike riders? Mud flaps are only required for commercial vehicles, Haha!

I should have knocked on wood when I said I'd never been nailed in the JK. A San Diego Motors Cop just pulled me over. Ok, so now I need to buy mud flaps, a license plate mount and lighting, and drill the front plate into my RockHard front bumper.

F*********k!!

I have only owned my YJ for 10 months now and have not even been looked at once by any LEO, but I mean how fast can the 2.5L 4 banger really go? :cheesy:

Now when I was young and dumb and had a 64 El Camino with a 350 and a 4 speed things were much different, I mean at one point I was one ticket away from no license. So I am coming home from work to my place in San Pedro just curising alone at the posted 25MPH when I see a bike cop coming the other way who then flips a u-turn and procedes to light me up after following me for all of 100 feet! He starts reading me the riot act for going 55 in a 25 to which I say no way, not on this street, not this close to home. So he gives me a speeding ticket and the last thing I tell him was "see you in court" which kind of pissed him off.

So I get copies of the street maps to show how the street twists and turns for miles, pictures of where he made the u-turn and where he stopped me and went to court. Right before it is my turn to go before the judge the cop comes over and says, "I am going to drop the speeding charge, my bike has some mechanical problems. I got into a high speed chase and my speedo was going from 45 to 150 MPH all while I was doing a steady speed". So the judge calls my name and says the case has been dropped and sorry for any inconvienence. Hell I was ready for a fight and he took the wind right out of my sails!

OH well, at least I didn't loose my license!

I drive about 40-45,000 miles per year and have not been pulled over in ten years and my DD is a Silverado Crew Cab. Last summer I bought a brand new Corvette Grand Sport six speed and couldn't keep the cops off me. It depends on how you drive but also what you drive. They don't even look at my Jeep yet there are plenty of reasons to pull it over.

LOL I've been pulled over in Colorado, Utah, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, Wyo...sooooo

Colorado got pulled over for doing the day speed limit of 75 just as it got dark and apparently the limit dropped to 65 at night, technically i could still see daylight but all the cop said was "you're fromTexas huh?" and wrote it up.

New Mexico has had a stretch of road under construction for the last 15 years...I used to drive it from Texas to Utah...i think it's just a speed trap..the speed limit at the time would go from 70mph then 35mph a few miles later..yep busted by tribal police he liked my jeep but still wrote me up.

Nevada cop was way cool, he pulled me over for speeding..yea i have a lead foot lol..but he couldn't believe I was able to travel that fast (85mph) and track so straight..we talked jeep he liked my plates JEEEEP and told me to slow down, wouldn't want anything to happen to my jeep :cheesy:

Texas I've been pulled over for all kinds of random things from tire check (only 35's) to lights aimed high...worst was going through a small town when i got tagged because they didn't recognize my jeep and they told me my jeep was typical of drug runners..after laying face down for what seemed forever while they searched my jeep they let me go and suggested i travel a different route next time..yea i was scared lol...

Coolest was on my way home from eating dinner, i was doiing 50 in a 40 and got pulled over and the cop just asked me a couple of questions, asked if i realized i was speeding..i told him yea when i saw him and he laughed...and then asked if i had my plate so i wouldn't forget what kind of vehicle i drove and told me to have a nice day..

got pulled over in Wyoming for not having my front license plate on..it's not required in Wyo but it is in Texas, luckily i had the plate with me and explained i had just picked up the replacement plates and didn't have time to get the front on before leaving Texas...just a warning

Utah, which i visit often, got pulled over so the cop could check out what i've done to my jeep ...it's really just pretty plain, 3.5" lift, 35's and no other mods..except the inside i have setup for for travel -fishing poles, and all the stuff to support a day out fishing lol, he mostly wanted to see the inside wondereing how i had all my fishing poles mounted in there..that was it

hopefully i'll avoid any more ummmm discussions with the law but sometimes you have to get there and drive with purpose

Yeah it does depend entirely on what you drive! The San Diego Officer today was cool as hell and only scratched me a fix it for the front and rear plate. I thought he'd written me for the mud flaps, but I saw later he hadn't. I will need to get those Tera-Flex mud flaps eventually. He said the same thing as the one cop did to Eddie, that it would really suck to get nailed by a rock while on a bike. Yup.. my bad, that would. :rolleyes2:

Don't drill into your bumper, just use zip ties and get the ticket fixed then take them off.

If I'm not doing anything illegal I don't have to worry about the police ahead. :thumb:

Thats a great statement as long as your within the laws with the Jeep, That was my issue here recently, i was obeying all traffic laws but got pulled over by a cop i stopped next to at a stop light. he stared at my jeep during the red and as soon as it turned green he jumped behind me and pulled me over. so when he asked me if i knew why he stopped me i said not a clue, i was stopped at a red light behind the white lines with my seat belt (5 point mastercraft harnesses) on and u stopped me 100 ft after the green light. he asked me to get out of my jeep so i asked "why? am i in trouble?" he said no, so i said i'm not exiting my vehicle unless i'm under arrest.... don't do this guys....then he asked if i was hiding anything i didn't want him to see, i said nothing you need to know about and no you do not have permission to search my vehicle anyways, so continuing on he said he stopped me because my wheels stick out passed my fenders, so i ran with the story that they were factory fenders and the dealership put the wheels on before i purchased the jeep so how could they sell an illegal vehicle...? he finally gave me a verbal warning and let me go after wasting about 45 min of my time for nothing. California...gotta love them cops....:banghead: :gaah:

btw this was in Los Angeles County... my least favorite place on earth

Is it the guy who always sits across from the Roberto's just south of La Costa Ave on 101 north?

I grew up there, and now that its summer time he should be there a couple times a week. Seen them out there just waving people over there for speeding tickets before(had 4 or 5 cars pulled over at a time). I grew up just down the street from there so am familiar with that great hiding spot under the eucalyptus trees.

All the sheriffs in Encinitas/Leucadia area used to be super cool, but that appears to be a thing of the past... they must be hanging out and comparing notes with all the d-bags up in Carlsbad...

I got to ride with a family friend in his baja bug (actually used to race it down there) on the beach @ ponto when they first pumped the lagoon some 15+ years ago, we got stopped by the lifeguards and he got a pretty heft ticket for racing up and down the beach catching some air on the new sand... This town was a lot more fun back in the 'ol days haha.

I've noticed Encinitas has stepped up on vehicle code violators and traffic cops/ motorcycles over the past 5-7 years. The cop that pulled me over was as cool as can be. There's a legend growing about a motorcycle cop with a 70's porn style mustache that has about as much personality as a blank piece of paper. A total tool!

I have not been pulled over since 1993 for any moving violations. BUT I have been pulled over out of curiosity about the vehicles...or cops fishing for mechanical violations.

1994 S-10 4x4...Moderate Lift and tire/wheel package:It looked sharp, so lots of curious police pull-overs.
1998 Dodge Neon RT...VERY modified: Constantly pulled over for exhaust volume and/or curiosity about "what is under the hood?"
2000 Jeep Cherokee....Moderate lift and tire/wheel package: It looked sharp, so lots of curious police pull-overs.

I just got back into the Jeep thing about a month ago.....it is only a matter of time before the cycle starts again.

I have been pulled over for doing a 32 in a 30 by a Palm Valley Officer (who have been known around where I live to be real quick to pull people over for doing nothing wrong) this cop was rude and at the time I only had the temporary insurance becuase I purchased the jeep a few weeks prior, just finish my community hours and online course.
Good luck to everyone with cop problems
